*	The designation "Detachment" means a unit smaller than a company, but with a any number of men, and is not an indication of size. For example, the Chemical Detachment (Service) of the Station Complement had two (2) men, whereas the Medical Detachment (Base Hospital) could have as many as 100 men.
**	The reorganization, expansion, as well as the low state of mobilization usually meant that many officers commanding were one or two ranks under the authorized ones, so that, for example, on 7 December 1941 not one USAAF Air Group was commanded by a full Colonel. Instead, Group commanders were Majors or Lieutenant Colonels.
